Chalice and Paten #2330, The Tassilo Chalice
This item belongs to the Artistic Silver Maestro Collection from Molina which represents the summit of the silversmith’s art. The sacred vessels in this collection are hand crafted using the age-old techniques of the silversmith’s art that have flourished in Spain since the Middle Ages. Some of the articles are faithful replicas of historic vessels, while others are products of the artists’ extensive historical knowledge and creative imagination.
The Tassilo Chalice and Paten faithfully replicate the original Eighth-Century Chalice commissioned by Duke Tassilo of Bavaria to commemorate his marriage to Princess Liutpirc from Lombardy. The original inscription with the names of the Duke and his bride has been changed to Per ipsum, cum ipso, in ipso – Through Him, with Him, in Him from the Roman Canon. The detailed hand engraved figures and decoration are finished in gold and silver plate. The figures on the cup are the Pantocrator and the Four Evangelists; those on the base are The Blessed Mother, St. John the Baptist, St. Paul, and St. Theodore.
The Chalice is 7-1/2 inches high with a 4-1/2-inch diameter cup that holds 18 ounces. The Paten is 6-1/2 inches in diameter. It made of brass with a two-tone finish of Gold and Silver Plate.
This chalice can also be ordered in brass with a sterling silver inner cup, or all in sterling silver If interested in either of these options, please call for information and pricing.
